Dorothy Jean Ray

.Services for Mrs. Dorothy Jean Rhodes Ray, 86, of Robeline, LA, formerly of Shreveport, LA, will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Officiating will be her grandson, Pastor Brian Ray. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ray passed away on July 9, 2016 from complications from a fall suffered at her home. She has been a resident of this area for over 70 years. Mrs. Ray was born February 1, 1930 in Timpson, TX to Vessie Oliver Rhodes and T.9.C. Garrett Rhodes. Dorothy then moved to Shreveport in 1941. She had many different occupations throughout her life including head cashier at A&P Food Store, Beaird & Poulan, and Boots on the assembly line. Dorothy and her husband were avid beaglers, sports fans, and Dorothy loved search-a -word puzzles. Mrs. Ray was an extremely active member in church whose never-wavering faith inspired others to pursue their own journey to Christ. Dorothy’s vibrant and out-going spirit touched everyone she met – and she never met a stranger, she was a friend to all.

Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Clifford Leon Ray Sr., her parents, her brother Thomas (Junior) Rhodes. Survivors include son Cliff Ray Jr. of Dallas, TX; daughter Linda K. Bagur (Al) of Rockwall, TX; and son Harold W. Ray (Vickey) of Carriere, MS; her brother James E. Rhodes, sisters Yvonne Hiller and Pat Butcher; grandchildren Brian (Christi), Andrea (Brad), Dustin (Jordan), Stacey, and Matt; great-grandkids Meaghan, Baylee, Garet, Kilee, Raygan, Cole, and Landen. Dorothy was anxiously anticipating the arrival of her 8th great-grandchild Kennedy.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Ray, Matt Ray, Brad Pickett, Wayne Berry, David Hall, and Mike Rose.

The family would like to thank their friends, family, and the Rapides Regional Medical Center ICU doctors and nurses for their support. The family would also like to thank Juanita Shillings for her loyal and special friendship to Dorothy.
