Edna Irene (Muse) Anstead, age 97, of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. Edna was born October 4, 1923 in Hess, Oklahoma to Nanny Pearl Walden and Luther Sherman (Shorty) Muse.
Edna attended Altus Jr. College and Southwestern State College in Oklahoma and was an elementary teacher before her marriage to Royce. She was a substitute teacher for Caddo Parish Schools for several years.
She was Nanny or Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edna loved them all dearly. She loved poetry and usually had a quotation for every occasion. She loved to shop and would go every Thursday after her hair appointment. She was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves behind her daughter, Susan Howard and husband Terry of Shreveport; son Cliff Anstead and wife Charlotte of Rockwell, Texas; sister-in-law Antonea Wallace and husband Gerald of Altus, Oklahoma; nephew John David Taylor and wife Pam and their son Chance Taylor; grandchildren David Barnhill, Christopher Anstead, Justin Anstead and wife Angela, Jason Howard and wife Marji, Lori Vickers; great grandchildren Matthew Barnhill, James, Matthew, Nicholas, and Phillip Anstead, Nick, Baileigh, and Dallas Howard, Kelsie, Kalie, and Kole Vickers; and four great-great grandchildren.
Her parents and two sisters Bonnie Muse and Sylvia Taylor; brother-in-law Pat Taylor and her husband of 61 years Royce Anstead all preceded Edna in death.
A visitation for Edna will be held Friday, February 12, 2021 at 10:00am at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A celebration of life will follow at 11:00am, with Chaplain Dana Casey officiating. Interment will take place in Centuries Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Edna's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank Robbie Moreau for her love, devotion and care of Miss Edna and Wilma Dyer, and for Willis Knighton Hospice, nurse Kimberly and nurse Lucy Grove for her help during these last weeks. The family would also like to thank Chaplain Casey for his spiritual guidance.
