Emma Betty Bowman Schenck

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hill Crest – Blanchard Chapel, 356 Warriner Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana 71107 with Pastor Richard Wise and Randy Rodgers officiating. Following the graveside service at Mt. Zion Cemetery (Highway 169, Longwood, Louisiana), the family will receive friends at Hill Crest – Blanchard Chapel for a time of fellowship and refreshments.

Betty was loving, supportive, and selfless. She had a deep love for her family and was affectionately known as “Grammer” to her grandchildren. She was merciful, compassionate, and always willing to help others without needing them to be perfect. She was not formally educated but she was wise, full of advice, and offered steady guidance. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through simple acts of kindness and unconditional love.

She enjoyed sewing for family and friends. Betty treasured the time spent sewing alongside her grandchildren, teaching them the skill she loved. Her generous spirit extended beyond her own family as she participated in sewing projects that benefited churches, nursing homes, and nonprofit organizations.

An accomplished home canner, Betty was especially known for her delicious Bread-and-Butter Pickles and her award-winning Pear Preserves. In 2018, she received a Blue Ribbon and was named Reserve Grand Champion for her Pear Preserves at the Louisiana State Fair.

A country girl at heart, Betty loved all animals. She was also a devoted Betty Boop fan, a reflection of her fiercely independent and bold personality, with a lot of sass and class. She was real and left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew her.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lottie Bowman; 11 siblings; husband, Harlin “Joe” Schenck, Sr.; daughter, Fay Clay Huber; son Ronnie Dale Schenck, Sr.; stepsons, Joe Schenck, Jr. and Larry Schenck; grandsons, Jonathan Schenck and Shawn Schenck, and great grandson, Dalton McDonald.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Johnny Lee Clay; daughters, Evelyn Clay McDonald, Rhonda S. Drach, Linda S. Hollifield; brother, Howard Bowman of Gladewater, Texas; sister-in-law, Marolyn Bowman of Liberty City, Texas; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Randy Bowman, Jeremy Pither, Chris Drach, Dustin McDonald, Maddox Pither, Raylan Drach. Honorary pallbearer, Josh Schenck.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and friends, who cared for Betty with love and compassion: Deborah Moore, Sylvia Shelby, Pam Rodgers, Tammy Colby, Jimmie Biondo, Michelle Adams, Christy Colby, and the staff at Bristol Hospice.

The family also extends a special thanks to son-in-law, Mark Drach for his unwavering love, care and support and Jennifer Weems for her support and continued role in the family after Ronnie’s passing.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
