

Shreveport, LA- Funeral services celebrating the life of Essie Pearl Bardwell Burton, 94, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at St. Mathias Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. A reception will be held at the church in the parish hall following the interment. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
Essie Pearl entered eloquently into Heaven's arms on September 5, 2015, surrounded by her family after a sudden illness. Essie Pearl was born in Marshall, TX and raised in Shreveport. She graduated from Fair Park High School. While married to her husband Roy, they lived in several states including California and Hawaii, before returning to Shreveport. After Roy's death, she lived in Ft. Lauderdale, FL before returning to Shreveport for her remaining years.
Up until her death, Essie Pearl was an independent, vibrant lady. She was a longtime member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church. Those that knew her best were in awe of her many artistic abilities. She was a true artist at heart. She enjoyed making handmade quilts for herself and others. Essie Pearl enjoyed painting porcelain China having just recently re-joined LOPAC of Shreveport. Later in life, she traveled with her beloved companion, Dave Denison, to many gun shooting competitions. She was a member of chapter 2209 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She loved playing bingo at her church and was always excited when she won.
Essie Pearl was preceded in death by her father and mother, Curtis W. Bardwell and Minnie Mae Rains Bardwell; her brother Jewel; three sisters, Thelma, Joyce and June; her husband, Roy Louis Burton; son, Donald Glen Burton and her beloved companion, Dave Denison.
Left to cherish beautiful memories of Essie Pearl is her daughter, Frances Diane Faulkner Haddad and son, Curtis Daniel Burton both of Shreveport; grandchildren, Deanna Haddad of Shreveport, Debbie Garrett and husband Bill of Madison, AL, Tonya Burton, Daniel Burton and Donna Burton; great grandchildren, Caitlin Garrett and Lauren Garrett of Madison, AL, Micah Burton and Mackala Burton.
Pallbearers will be: Bill Garrett, Steve Grayson, Michael Grayson, Daniel Burton, Henry Bernstein and Ken Heft.
