Shreveport, LA- Floyd David Landrum passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 with his family gathered around his bedside. He took flight to be with Jesus, following a long and often difficult journey resulting from a head injury in 2002. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, at the Johnson home (2925 Long Lake Drive) from 6:00-9:00 pm, and the funeral services will be held Saturday, December 17 at Centuries Memorial Mansfield Road at 10:00 am. Officiating will be pastor and dear friend, Rev. Wayne DuBose.
Dave was born March 14, 1944, in Glenmora, LA. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in Shreveport and promptly entered the insurance industry as an adjustor. His intelligence and work ethic caught the attention of friend and mentor, Jim Thompson, who brought Dave in as a partner in his own insurance company. Through the nurturing of his mentor and many long hours of study and hard work, Dave helped grow and merge that company with Alexander and Alexander Insurance, which was ultimately bought by Aon, a worldwide insurance firm. After retiring from Aon, Dave continued to work in the insurance industry as the risk manager for Tango Transport.
Dave was heavily involved in both his civic and church communities. He was a founding member of the University Club and belonged to both the Rotary and Lion’s Clubs. He served on multiple committees at Summer Grove Baptist Church, giving countless hours to chair the Building Committee for several years. He was a deacon and faithful visiting partner of his pastor and best friend, Wayne DuBose. Together, they saw many people give their lives to Christ as a result of their weekly visits. Dave used his gift of construction to build many of the sets used in the drama presentations at Summer Grove. His additional contributions to the church are much too numerous to list them all.
Dave was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to water ski, snow ski, play golf, hunt, and fish. He logged hundreds of hours in his boat on Lake Claiborne, teaching dozens of teenagers how to water ski. He both loved and hated the game of golf, depending on how he played that day. He developed his love of the game at Shreveport Country Club, but eventually became a member of East Ridge Country Club, where two of his grandsons now play faithfully in his honor.
His parents, David Clayton Landrum and Ruby Arnold preceded Dave in death. He is survived by his wife, Pat Landrum, his daughters, Cheri Johnson and her husband, Lynn, and Melinda Wallace and her husband, Stan, all of Shreveport, LA. He also leaves his legacy in four grandchildren: Colton Johnson, Alex Wallace, Landrum Wallace, and Carson Johnson, all residents of Shreveport as well.
The Landrum family expresses deep appreciation to the caregivers at The Oaks, who made this final leg of our journey so much easier. Though our time with you was short, your kindness and compassion was a huge bright spot in an otherwise dark season.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to The Hub: Urban Ministries, a non-profit organization that ministers to the poor and homeless community in Shreveport Bossier, 601 Cotton Street, Shreveport, LA, 71101.
