Gene was a devoted family man. He married Hilde Lauf in 1960, and they shared 54 wonderful years together until her passing. He is survived by his loving children, Sandra Elizabeth Hicks, Debbie Willoughby, and Mike Hicks (Dana). Gene was a proud grandfather to Zachary Hicks, Connor Hicks, and Shelby Hicks, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Hilde Hicks, son, John Steven Hicks, his parents, Elmer Marion Hicks and Doris Elizabeth Hicks-Lowery, and his brothers, Kenneth and Durl Hicks.
In his professional life, Gene served on the electrical board and was a member of NECA for 50 years. In 1973, he started a successful electrical contractor business, demonstrating his dedication and hard work. Gene had a passion for auctions, both in-person and online, and he spent many enjoyable hours pursuing this interest. His devotion to his wife, children, and grandchildren was evident in all aspects of his life.
Visitation will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, located at 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108, on December 30, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 am at the same venue. Gene will be laid to rest at Centuries Memorial Park. Officiating the service will be Pastor John Lary.
