

Shreveport, LA- Funeral services celebrating the life of George Bacilla, Sr., 89, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2016 in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Officiating will be Minister Darwin Hunter. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.
George was a loving husband, dedicated father and grandfather. He was a dedicated family provider. George played football in high school and loved going to football games and watching them on TV. He loved watching old western movies, antiquing, taking long walks, loved gardening and tending his plants and roses.
George enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 and served our country until his honorable discharge in 1946. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II aboard The Amphibious Force Flagship USS Biscayne supporting combat operations at Iwo Jima, Kerma Retto, Okinawa, and the Philippine Islands. George separated from the Navy as a Motor Machinist Mate 3rd class and was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, American Campaign Service Medal, Asia Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Navy Occupation Service Medal.
George was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
George is preceded in death by his father, Gus Bacilla and his mother, Annie Kerry Bacilla; his wife, Beatrice; daughter, Virginia Bacilla; sister, Rose Brocato; brother, Gus Bacilla; sister, Isabel Mondello; brother, Edward Bacilla; brother, Phillip Bacilla and brother, Albert Bacilla.
He is survived by children, George Bacilla Jr. of Shreveport, LA and Teresa Bartlett and husband, Tom of St. Charles, MO; grandson, Jacob Sjoberg & Tara Zimmerman of Sartell, MN and granddaughter, Sara Sjoberg & fiancé Stefan Geissler of Minnetonka, MN.
