George worked as a System Electrician for SWEPCO for 36 years. After graduating from Fair Park High School he attended Louisiana Tech University. He entered the U.S. Army in 1953 and served his country well. George was a member of Sunset Masonic Lodge #438, a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason and El Karubah Shriner in Shreveport. He loved traveling and toured almost all of the United States and the Canadian Provinces and Territories. He spent his leisure time fishing, working in his shop fixing things, water skiing, and spending time on Lake Claiborne. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him best and loved him most.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George T. Dixon, Sr. and Otie Frazier Dixon; daughter, Kathryn Grace Dixon; brother, James Harvey Dixon and sister, Alice Dixon Neal.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Gloria Godwin Dixon; son, George M. Dixon (Sally); granddaughter, Natalie Lannen (Jake); grandson, Bryce Rodgers (Madison); sister, Mary Dixon Hasty. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation for George will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108, followed by a celebration of life service at 1:30 PM with Bro. Danny Baskin officiating. Interment will be at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108; Peace A Garden; Lot: 114, Grave: 3.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Olympics, Wesley Chapel at Lake Claiborne (Homer, LA),Shriners Hospital for Children or the charity of your choice.
