

Col Gerald Pierce Huckabee, age 82, went to be with the Lord, Friday, November 10, 2017, after a short battle with cancer. Col Huckabee is survived by his aunt Barbara Gardner and his two brothers Niles Huckabee and Harlow Huckabee. He is also survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Kerry Huckabee and their three children: Keith Huckabee and his daughter Madison Huckabee; Kathy Doyle McClintock and husband Charlie Pat, her children Rachel Opie and husband James and their children Violet and Evelyn; Hannah Chance and husband Brady and their daughter Landry; and Carson Doyle; daughter Kristi K. Fafara and husband David.
Col Huckabee enlisted in the United States Air Force in May 1957. Via the Aviation Cadet Program, he completed his pilot training as a distinguished graduate and was commissioned a second lieutenant in June 1960. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Col Huckabee earned several medals, including the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, 9 Air Medals, the Air Force Commendation Medal and numerus other medals. Col Huckabee resigned from active duty in September 1966 and subsequently joined the Air National Guard. In October 1969, he joined the Air Force Reserve where he served until his retirement in July 1990. Col Huckabee proudly served his country for a total of 33 years and 3 months.
In addition to his career in the military, Gerald was a loving father and a devoted husband who loved life and relished spending time with his family and friends. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed mountaineering, snow skiing, and gardening. Though his passion was flying, his true calling was serving his Lord. A wise spiritual leader, Gerald spent much of his life ministering to others and sharing the love of Jesus Christ.
A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, November 16, 2017, at 12 noon at Church at Red River on Flournoy Lucas Road, Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:30. Interment with full military honors will be held at 2 pm at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Keithville, Louisiana.
