

Shreveport, LA – Celebration of Life services for Gladys Sixkiller Braniff, 89, will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Chapel, Shreveport, Mansfield Road. Pastors Steve Wilson and Dr. Murry Hodge officiating. Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Centuries Memorial. The family would like to welcome guests for visitation on Monday, September 8, 2014 from hours of 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the chapel.
Gladys passed away on September 5, 2014 while at the Grace Home after a lengthy illness. Gladys was born July 7, 1925 in Jacksonville, FL and later moved to New Orleans, LA where she completed her education. She was a resident of Shreveport since 1951. She was a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church and of the Bruce Hardcastle SS Class. She was a prior member of The Pelican Travelers Chapter of FMCA motor home club and served in various offices of the club throughout.
Gladys was a wonderful, faithful loving wife, mother and homemaker for 71 years. Just a few of her talents included the art of cross stitching and crocheting; her cross stitch becoming tapestries of treasures, and her crocheting becoming afghans of her warm love. She gifted many family, friends and servants with these gifts showing her sincere love for them for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Roger John Braniff, whom she married on March 13, 1943. Also by Sons Raymond R. Braniff and wife Patsy, Roger S. Braniff Sr. and wife Phyllis. Six grandchildren, Christi B. Stegall and husband Shane, Darrell R. Braniff and wife Jill, Roger S. Braniff Jr. and wife Andrea, Christopher D. Braniff, John D. Smith and Michael T. Smith and wife LaCretia, seven great grandchildren, half sister Lola Sixkiller Butler, half brother Gerald Sixkiller, and numerous nieces and nephews. And not to forget another love of her life, her Yorkie Tara.
Gladys was preceded in death by Father, Jesse M. Sixkiller Sr., Mother Myrtle R. Sixkiller, brother Jesse M. Sixkiller Jr., sister Dorothy S. Braniff, brother-in-law Thomas J. Braniff Sr. sister-in-law Lorraine Sixkiller, stepmother Jeanette Sixkiller, all of the New Orleans area.
Serving as pallbearers are: Darrell Braniff, Roger Braniff Jr., Chris Braniff, Shane Stegall, Austin Stegall, Michael Smith, John Roy Fulco and Bill Ford.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Amedisys Home Health, Christus Highland Hospital, the Glenn Retirement Home and to the gracious loving care of the staff at the GRACE Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials made to the GRACE Home, Shreveport, or St. Jude Children Hospital, Memphis, TN.
