Gloria Weeks Elliott was born in Longstreet (DeSoto Parish), LA on August 8, 1931, the second of three children to the late Shelby and Opal Elizabeth Weeks. She grew up in South Mansfield, attended Mansfield High, and for a time worked at the Mansfield Theater where she caught the eye of a returning WWII veteran, Charlie “C.A.” Elliott, Jr. From their marriage on June 8, 1948, until his death nearly 65 years later, a family of two children, three grandchildren, and five great-granddaughters grew.
At home, Gloria was renowned for her cooking and baking and made full use of her double oven (especially during the holidays). She proudly displayed her skills and handwork with her handmade dresses, bobbin lace making, knitting, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, and cross stitching. She avidly watched blue birds and hummingbirds from her kitchen window, and with her natural green thumb her vegetable garden, fruit trees, rose bushes, and houseplants flourished.
In August 1956, C.A. and Gloria Elliott made their home in Greenwood, LA. There, Gloria served as a cub scout den mother, was a member of the Greenwood Women’s Club, participated in women’s league bowling, and for more than 60 years was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood. She excelled in her secretarial duties at Bryan & Bryan Advertising, FabSteel, and Interactional Services, and in her retirement, she served as an elections commissioner in Greenwood.
Gloria frequently traveled the country with her husband in their RV to attend WWII Army reunions, antique and classic car swap meets, and to see the fall leaves in Arkansas—all the while with a Boston terrier companion at their side.
Gloria graciously endured the effects of a debilitating stroke in 2005, and on Sunday, April 14, 2019, she was reunited in Heaven with her loved ones.
Preceding Gloria in death were her parents, step-father George Jenkins, brother Garland Weeks, and husband C.A. Left to cherish her memory are her two sisters Barbara Ann Weeks Furlough Allen and Sharon Jenkins Beall; sister-in-law Sally Weeks; son Gregory Allen Elliott and daughter Susan Elliott Fox (both of Greenwood); and numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren include: Jeremy and Crystal Fox (daughters Macie and Maelen) of West Monroe, Jonathan and Kim Fox of Shreveport, and Corey and Jennifer Tohmé (daughters Lauren, Emily, and Ashley) of Pearl River.
The family would like to thank Dr. Anthony Stuart and the staff of St. Joseph Hospice for their compassion and concern: Bro. Steve Slaughter, Amber, Ann, Charlotte, Jackie, L.V., Leslie, Melinda, and Shirley. Their assistance has been invaluable.
Visitation will be at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home (8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport) on Friday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow immediately at 3:00 p.m. with Bro. Joe Bob Alexander and Tommy Wynn officiating. Pallbearers will be Gloria’s grandsons, nephews, and other family friends.
