Grant passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012, in Heber City, UT.
Grant was born November 22, 1989, in Shreveport, LA. He attended Southfield School, Youree Drive Middle School, and Captain Shreve High School, graduating with the “Class of 2008.” After attending Louisiana Tech for a brief time, Grant continued his college education at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas until 2011.
Grant attended Grace Community Church in Shreveport, where he was baptized and confirmed.
Grant made friends easily with his playful nature, generous heart and fierce loyalty. Grant’s penchant for moving fast with bounding energy earned him the affectionate nickname, “Tigger.” He demonstrated his love for sports through his participation in team soccer with CABOSA, Shreveport Futbol Club, and Captain Shreve JV/Varsity. He also enjoyed golf, riding four-wheelers, hunting, and fishing. He never missed an opportunity to support his beloved LSU Tigers.
Of all the things Grant loved in life, one of the dearest to his heart was Rock Solid Sports. Grant spent a good chunk of his life as a camper, a Leader in Training, and a Staff Member of Rock Solid, where he touched and impacted the lives of many. Rarely could Grant be found around the camp without a smile on his face, a child on his shoulder, or his arm wrapped around a staff member. In the wake of Grant’s passing, many of the former campers and staff members have described him as funny, playful, a giver, gentle-hearted, protective, adventurous, loving, loyal, kind, a prankster, and most of all committed to “make an impact, one life at a time.” Grant will be dearly missed by the Rock Solid family.
His mother, Judy Derrick Laviolette; his father and stepmother, LeClerc Joseph (L.J.) and Sherri Layfield Laviolette; and his grandmother, Joy F. Derrick, survive Grant.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 21 from 5 to 7 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd., Shreveport, LA.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 22 at 9:30 am at Grace Community Church, 9400 Ellerbe Rd., Shreveport, LA. The services will be officiated by Rev. Rob Weber of Grace Community, with participation from Rev. Weston Brown of Brookwood Baptist Church and Shelley McMillian, dear friend, mentor, and CEORock Solid Sports. Graveside service and burial, led by Rev. Tom Harrison of Broadmoor Baptist Church will follow at Centuries Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers: “Nick” Flowers, Jacob Harrell, Bryan Kinnebrew, John Kinnebrew, Colby Lorant, and Paxton Monsour.
Memorials: Rock Solid Athletic, POB 18224, Shreveport, LA 71138
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.” Grant will be greatly missed by all who knew him, as he was truly a blessing to all. He is “home safe.”
