Harold Avery Wendling “Skip”, age 77, was called home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Skip, a lifelong resident of Louisiana, was born August 29, 1944, in Shreveport, La. He was the only child to parents, Harold Avery and Clara Lou Wendling, both deceased. He was also predeceased on June 17, 2010, by his youngest son Jake Gregory Wendling.
Skip spent eight years of his young childhood living in Venezuela, where his father was employed with Standard Oil Company. As an adult, Skip entertained his family with stories of growing up in Venezuela.
Skip experienced a wide range of employment during his working career. His first job, which he was most proud of, he was an engineer for NASA, where he worked with the designing of the Controll panel for Apollo 11 mission, which was the first moon landing on July 20, 1969. He was a draftsman and retired from drafting when he became disabled.
Skip enjoyed music, singing, fast cars and fishing. In his younger years, he helped form the band “Shades of Sound” and later in life, the gospel group “Jericho”.
He accepted Christ as his Savior in 1985, where his life was forever changed. He was a member of North Shreve Baptist Church in Blanchard, La. He was very active in his church, especially in the men’s ministry and the music ministry. He frequently volunteered for the head cook at church as cooking was also one of his passions.
Skip leaves to cherish him memory; wife Jill R. Wendling; daughter Lori and husband Marcus Gomez; daughter Shari and husband Guy Chowns; son Lance Wendling; daughter Amanda Thompson; grandchildren Andy Walters, Erika Woods, Joseph Spence, Michael Gongre, Emily Gongre, Jake Wendling, Rose Wendling, Michael “Dilly Boy” Weaver, Jacob Forward, Kendal Thompson; eight great grandchildren and many friends.
Visitation for Mr. Wendling will be held at Hill Crest Chapel in Blanchard, Louisiana on November 30, 2020 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Service will follow at 6:00 p.m.
Officiating will be Pastor Roy Davis with music by Bro Steve Miller.
