Helen Joyce Patterson Wendling, age 97, of Shreveport, Louisiana, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 16, 2025. She was born and raised in Shreveport, the beloved daughter of Jimmie Lee Patterson Orr and Harlie H. Patterson.
Helen lived a long, full life rooted in deep faith, and unwavering devotion to her family. As a true woman of God her faith was not merely something she believed, but it was how she lived. Helen considered her greatest accomplishment to be raising her four children to know and love the Lord. Her home was one where God was honored daily, and her children grew up witnessing her quiet strength, devotion, and integrity in everything she did. Her legacy of faith lives on in her children, grandchildren, and generations beyond. Through both word and example, she taught them the importance of faith, prayer, and living a life centered on Christ.
A lifelong student of the Word, Helen read the entire Bible multiple times and found joy and strength in her spiritual journey. She also found beauty in the simple pleasures of life: tending to her flowers, watching the birds, and caring for her beloved dogs Buffy, Charlie, and Deuce. She was a talented crocheter and seamstress who created countless keepsakes for her family.
Helen is survived by her daughters Jan Poole (Steve) and Cindy Fortson (Jim); her sister Pauline Baker; grandchildren Kimberly Wise, Shelley Williams, Aaron Kendrick, Scott McDaniel, Dustin McDaniel, Chris Wendling, Andrea Peters, and Korey Prest, Stephen Fortson, Travis Fortson and Heather Terrell; daughters in law, Kim Kendrick and Mary Kendrick; two nephews, numerous great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T-Bone Wendling, sons Jere Kendrick and Pat Kendrick; her parents Harlie H. and Jimmie Lee Patterson Orr; her brother Floyd Patterson and his daughter; and her brother-in-law E.J. Baker.
A Graveside Service will be held in her honor at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108. Helen will be laid to rest in the American Heritage Garden, Lot 86, Grave 5.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be made to Kingston Road Baptist Church, 8900 Kingston Rd, Shreveport, Louisiana 71118, or the charity of your choice.
