Irene was never one to sit at home as much of her life was spent “running the roads” as she enjoyed her lunches and shopping excursions with her friends. The miles she must have racked up on her vehicles through the years. She would spend her early years in the local bowling alleys where she worked and participated on various bowling leagues.Later, she became a charter member of the Krewe of Gemini and would serve as Duchess of Texas in 2000. Those were fond memories for Irene as she embraced the spirit of Mardi Gras from the social events, the volunteer work, and especially “parade day”. She loved everything about it. She also loved her trips to the beach with family and friends. Her greatest joy, though, was her family. She adored her 4 grandchildren and loved spending as much time with them as she could. Christmas gatherings were her favorite.
Irene was preceded in death by her partner, Mike Smith: her first born son Christopher Michael; her parents Fred and Florence “Pert” Couvillion.
Irene is survived by her son, Shane Smith and wife Tricia of Blanchard, La.; daughter, Tammy Miller, and her husband Mike of Gonzales, La.; grandchildren Halen, London, Hailey, and Cassidy, and her siblings Peggy, Rita, and Skip along with their spouses and “the cousins”.

A special thank you to her sister Peggy for her time and devotion she selflessly gave to Irene when she needed it the most. The family would also like to thank her dear friends for their unyielding love and support throughout the years. She will be missed dearly by those who knew her best and loved her most.
The family requests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to St. Jude for Children in her name. Please share sympathies, condolences, and memories online at www.dignitymemorialobituaryshreveport.
