Jairus was born in Taylorsville, Mississippi, to the late Rev. Matthew "Buster" Keyes and Fannie Nobles Keyes. He was the youngest of eight children and later lived with his oldest sister, Fannie Ruth "Nettie" Edmonson, and his brother-in-law, the late Rev. Darious O. Edmonson.
At a young age, Jairus accepted Christ and was baptized at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Mississippi, where he began his lifelong journey of faith. Jairus was educated at Enterprise High School, Coahoma Community College and later attended Jackson State University. He subsequently embarked upon a career with General Motors, where he faithfully served for more than twenty-eight years before retiring.
On July 2, 1977, Jairus married Patricia A. Brown. He was the father of four sons, whom he loved dearly and guided with wisdom. A man of deep faith, he served as a member of Word of God Ministries in Shreveport, LA.
Jairus was an avid sports enthusiast who especially enjoyed cheering for the New Orleans Saints and closely following the athletic programs of his beloved Jackson State University. He was known for his quiet strength, steadfast character, strong work ethic, and kind and gentle spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six of his siblings: Willie J. Keyes, Roy Keyes, Corby Keyes, Noble Ruth (Keyes) Gamble, and M.H. Keyes.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of forty-nine years, Patricia Keyes of Shreveport, LA; four sons, Jairus Keyes, Jr. and Lasca "Barron" Keyes (Kelli), both of Shreveport, LA, Derland Keyes (Tiffany) of Atlanta, GA, and Marcal Collins of Meridian, MS; five grandchildren, Keanu, Madison, Braylyn, Manerva and Kerri; his sister, Fannie Ruth "Nettie" Edmonson, Enterprise, MS and brother Robert Keyes (Patricia) of Fort Lauderdale, FL.
His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure. He will be deeply missed and remembered forever.
Visitation will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108, US, on July 31, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 am.
Burial will take place on July 31, 2026, at Centuries Memorial Park , 8801 Mansfield Rd, Shreveport, in Section Acacia B, Lot 105, Space 4.
