James Claude "Jim" Yelvington

Graveside services for Mr. Jim Yelvington, 93, will be held at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Rd. Shreveport, LA on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will be at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Friday, July 10, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Jim was born April 20, 1922 in Athens, TX. He died July 8, 2015 at Christus Schumpert Highland. He was a WWII Veteran and served as a radio operator-machine gunner from 1942 – 1945. He moved to Shreveport and had been a resident here for 70 years. Jim retired from Ogilvie Hardware in 1985. He attended Broadmoor Baptist Church for many years.

Preceding Mr. Yelvington in death was father, James C. Yelvington; mother, Laura Hall Yelvington; wife, Rae Smith Yelvington, sister, Dorothy Petty; brother, Bill Yelvington.

Left to cherish his memory are step-daughter, Sharon Bowden Lindsay and husband, Robert of Shreveport; step-granddaughters, Michelle Lindsay Sartori and husband, Chuck of Shreveport; Lisa Lindsay Whiteman and husband, Judd of Dallas, TX; step-great-granddaughters, Taylor Sartori and Julia Sartori; nephews, Fr. J.C. “Jerry” Yelvington III of Austin, TX and Brad Yelvington of Lexington, KY.

Jim’s family expresses special thanks to Katherine Lawrence for her love and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Broadmoor Baptist Church Building Fund.
