James worked at many different jobs for 10 years or more. His first job was delivering telegrams for Western Union which lasted for 22 years. His last job was with Bumper To Bumper where he finally retired. James was an electrician, plumber, carpenter and mechanic. He was not licensed in any of these but was a master at all of them. James loved being in church, worshiping and praising God. He was honored to serve as an usher at Apostolic Faith Tabernacle. He enjoyed taking his wife on weekend getaways to Arkansas, especially in the fall when the leaves were changing colors.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Dixie Cole Powell; infant son, Matthew Powell and infant granddaughter Jaclyn Murray.
Left to cherish his memory and his wife of 60 years, Annie Clark Powell; son Kevin Powell; daughters, Donna Greer (Landis) and Kimberly Murray; grandchildren, Christopher Hunter (Heather), Kayla Hunter (Joe) and Evelyn Murray; great granddaughter coming soon; sister, Shirley Campbell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Visitation for James will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am. Rev. Josh Sandy and Rev. Kent Greer will be officiating the service. Interment will take place in Centuries Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Apostolic Faith Tabernacle for all their love and support during this difficult time. All of you meant so much to Daddy. He loved each and everyone of you very much.
