James graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1963. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1965 until 1969, earning many medals including, the Vietnam Service Medal. Upon leaving the Navy, he worked at General Electric for more than 30 years as a machinist retiring in 2002. He was kind man who enjoyed the simple life, spending time with family and friends, and his dog Lucy, who was his constant companion.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Roy G. Ross and wife Margaret of Waskom, TX, Carolyn A. Ross Risinger and husband Johnny of Forney, TX, and Linda L. Ross Oar and husband Al of Bossier City, LA; 11 nieces and nephews; 20 great nieces and nephews; and 5 great-great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elsa M. Ross Kirk.
A graveside service for James will be held Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Pastor Nick Sorrell of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
