Janice accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Hopewell Baptist Church under the pastoral guidance of Reverend C.E. Galloway. Her faith was a cornerstone throughout her life, reflecting the courage and strength she carried with grace.
Her formal education spanned the Caddo Public and private school districts, where she attended Stoner Hill Elementary School, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, and Valencia Jr/Sr High School. Her pursuit of knowledge was marked by a blend of class and dedication.
Janice's vibrant journey took her from her hometown to the bustling streets of New York City. In the Bronx, Manhattan, and Harlem, she embraced the excitement and energy of the city, visiting iconic places such as the world-famous Apollo Theater. Her time in New York City showcased her adventurous spirit and the strength she exuded in embracing new experiences.
Upon returning to Shreveport, LA, Janice worked in the hospitality industry and married her beloved Donald R. Griffin. Her life was a testament to her class and dignity, whether she was working, nurturing her family, or facing life’s challenges.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents Randolph Dickens and Jeanie Mae Mitchell; her maternal grandparents James and Everlene Bass; her husband Donald R. Griffin; her daughter Trena R. Dickens; her grandson Gabriel Rainey; her brother Ronald Francis Galloway; and her brothers-in-law Robert A. Balthazar and Frank L. Dickson.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sherille Rainey and Courtney Bryant (Anthony Sr. ); four grandchildren, Jade Rainey, Chad Adams Jr., Kendall Adams, and Devin Galloway; one great-grandson, Jaxson Rainey; and four sisters, Annie Dickson, Terri Horton, Joan Galloway, and Marion Balthazar. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.
A celebration of Janice’s life will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 PM at Lincoln Memorial Park, 6915 W 70th St, Shreveport, LA 71129. A repass will be held at 3:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
