Services for JoAnn Smith Greene, age 82, will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010, at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home followed by the graveside service. A memorial service will held the same day at 1:00 p.m. at the Belcher Veterans Memorial. Reverend George Bailey will conduct the services.
JoAnn was born August 24, 1928, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Lovic Hall Smith and Clyde Bickham Smith and died on September 7, 2010. Following graduation from Belcher High School, JoAnn was employed by Caddo Trust & Savings Bank in Belcher and Gilliam, where she worked for 13 years. She later worked in the U.S. Post Office in Belcher for 25 years, retiring as Postmaster. JoAnn was a longtime member of the Belcher Baptist Church.
On August 3, 1946, shortly after the end of World War II, JoAnn and W.H. Greene were married, the beginning of 64 years together. On August 17, 2002, after many months of hard work and determination, together with several others, they realized a cherish dream with the dedication of the Belcher Veterans Memorial.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard (Ricky) Whayland Greene; and brother, C.E. Bickham. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Whayland (W.H.) Greene of Belcher; daughter, Nancy Greene Hanna Camus; son, Wayne Smith Greene of Belcher; daughter-in-law, Ann Ethredge Greene McDaniel and husband, David of Belcher; sister, Jane Smith Pearce Stroud and husband, A.M. (Buddy) Stroud, Jr. of Shreveport; sister-in-law, Mary Greene Fuller of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Greene of Glendale, Arizona; grandchildren, Melissa Hanna Brown, Wesley Greene, Jonathan McDaniel, Ashley McDaniel, and Melissa McDaniel Fultz; great-grandchildren, Temperance and Max Brown; and many special nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Billy Alcorn, Brandon White, Daniel Yarbrough, Gary Leon, Jimmy Ray Harkness, and Mike Volentine. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Bickham and Harry Solomon.
