John Lee Fatherree Sr., of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's. John was born August 24, 1944 in Shreveport, Louisiana to R. Lee and Cathleen Fatherree.
John graduated from Fair Park High School. He served his country proudly in the US Army. He retired in 2000 after 32 years as a Ticket Agent at Delta Airlines. After retirement, he worked a short time at Whited's with his friend Mike McCullough. John was a faithful member of Grawood Baptist Church in Keithville, Louisiana. Following in the footsteps of his dad, John was a strong man of faith. He had a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior, and loved serving in his church, attending Sunday School under the teaching of Bro. Jackie Tipton, and going to Wednesday morning Bible Study. Second only to his faith, was his love for his family. He rarely, if ever, missed the concerts, activities, and sporting events of his children and then his grandchildren. He was always our biggest fan. Being an avid outdoorsman, if he was not at church or with family, you could generally find him in the woods or on the water. Fishing was most definitely his passion, especially fly fishing. If he wasn't actively fishing with one of his two best friends, EJ Mikesell (deceased) or Rex White, he would be talking about fishing. He was an active member of North Louisiana Fly Fishers.
John was preceded in death by his parents, R. Lee and Cathleen Fatherree.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, John Lee Fatherree, Jr. (Heather) and Melissa F. Kennedy (Craig); grandchildren, Shelbi Kennedy Weeks (Kyle), Kaci Faith Kennedy, Gracie Lee Fatherree and Alexander "AC" Fatherree; great grandchildren, Everett Weeks and Kennedy Weeks.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association on his behalf in memory of Mandy Atkins, or to St. Jude Children's Research.
