John's passing is a major loss for The Karpeles Manuscript Library of Shreveport. He knew ever inch of our building. He also studied every exhibit and offered his advice and assistance. His help was nothing short of essential. In fact, he even traveled to some of our other museums throughout the United States, giving special advise, in particular, on an exhibit in Jacksonville, Florida and also a different exhibit in Santa Barbara, California.  He was truly one of our national ambassadors. He will be irreplaceable. Goodbye John, although you are no longer here on earth, you have left me with precious memories, a positive outlook on life and a striving to always look for the goodness in all people. Thank you for your support, advice and care over the years, the wonderful stories and the many photographs. Condolences and thanks to the Herring family. Jeanie & Malcolm

I worked with John on our Homeowner's Board of Directors.  He was an asset to the Association and a hard worker.  I know that he will be missed by all of his family.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another. 

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to John Jacob Herring, III  our “Brother-in-Arms”.   To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for John.   And to John it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Navy.  John, you are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction.  You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country.  We bid you a sad farewell.  You will be dearly missed from among our ranks.  Be at Ease.  Rest in Peace.
