A Celebration of Life will be held Friday July 7, 2023 at 12:00pm at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. A memorial gathering will be prior from 11am until 12pm.
Johnny attended Fair Park High School where he was in the ROTC and played football. He was awarded the Shreveport Times All City Tackle in 1957. In 1958 he attended Pelican Boy's State. He was honored with a scholarship to LSU to play football. He earned his degree in Civil Engineering and served as a first lieutenant in the US Army where he received an Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. He also was a Research Engineer for the Louisiana Department of Highways.
Johnny was a lifelong citizen of Shreveport. He served as chairman of the Board of Management of Southside Family YMCA, as a loaned executive to the United Way, a Junior Achievement Advisor and as a member of the Caddo Parish Citizens Tax Study Committee. He served on the First City Council of Shreveport for two terms. Johnny was a profession Civil Engineer and a licensed surveyor. He began his career in the Army as a Second Lieutenant. He then worked for the Highway Department in Baton Rouge. He worked for Western Electric (AT+T) and retired after 28 years to spend time with his family.
Johnny was married to Judy Ferguson, the love of his life, for 64 years. He spent his life as a hardworking, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved the outdoors, hunting with his son-in-law, fishing, golfing and his yard projects. He enjoyed watching his kids play sports and coaching. Johnny was always spending time with his children. He enjoyed taking his kids to Destin, camping and going to his place on Toledo Bend. He will always be in our hearts.
Johnny joins in Heaven his parents John Earl and Mable Bolton Scotto; sisters Jean Anderson and Dorothy Hardaway; and his in laws Homer and Joyce Ferguson.
Left to cherish Johnny's memory is his wife of 64 years, Judy Scotto; son, Rodney Scotto (Kelly Price) of Keller, TX; daughter, Teri Scotto Wischan (Van Wischan) of Conroe, TX; grandchildren Alexis Wischan, Victoria Wischan, Mary Claire Scotto, Caroline Scotto and Carson Scotto; sister-in-law Sharon Hodge Mitchell; nieces; and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to his wonderful caregivers; Wynesha (Nene) Green, Brittany Elliott, those with Christus Hospice who cared for Johnny, his neighbors in Greenwood and friends.
Donations made be in Johnny's honor to St. Judes or the American Cancer Society.
