Mr. John Elton Smith

Shreveport,LA-Funeral services celebrating the life of John E. Smith,82, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015 in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.

J.E. was born on July 12, 1932 in Calhoun,LA. After graduating from Ouchita High School he served 4 years in the U.S. Navy. He married Sarah Virginia Cagle on April 15, 1955. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and Past Commander of Legion of Honor of El Karubah Shrine Temple. He volunteered countless hours at the Shriners Hospital for crippled children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Elton and Mattie Olive Frost Smith of West Monroe, LA and sister, Martiel Willer of La Mirada,CA.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sarah Virginia Cagle Smith; daughter, Becky Nissen and husband Joel; sons, E.W. "Bubba" Smith and wife Karla and Jerry Smith and wife Gwen; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and one sister, Elsie Jordan of Nebraska.
