
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. in Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel for Jonnie McAllister Smith, 89, who died Sunday, June 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Signature Pointe on the Lake. There will be family visitation before the service at 1 p.m.
The Rev. Carl Rhoads will be officiating the service.
She was born to the late George and Susie McAllister on August 24, 1922 in Quitman, Texas. She married the late Chester H. Smith, Jr. in 1941. They lived in Shreveport, LA for 25 years. She was a secretary at Linwood Junior High School for 18 years. After relocating to Carencro, Louisiana, she was a housewife and mother with a gift for gardening, cooking and volunteering. She was a Pink Lady volunteer for 15 years at Lafayette Regional Hospital and also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Lafayette, Louisiana.
After the death of her husband, she relocated to Bonham, Texas and continued with her volunteer work at Northeast Medical Center and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bonham.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings and a grandson. She is survived by two sons, Sammy Mac Smith and Carl Smith and one daughter Deborah Whitson, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Dallas, Texas.
