Rev. J.E. Peters (known as Elwood Peters) was born March 25, 1938 in Alley Valley, Virginia to Herman and Gertrude Peters. He had been sick for the last 2 ½ months due to strokes. God called for his “Hoppy Uppy Time” at 11:07 a.m. on May 18, 2018 when the last and final stroke took his life. He scored a “hole in one” with Jesus on this day.
A visitation for Rev. Peters will occur Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at King’s Temple, 8951 Kingston Rd, Shreveport, LA. A Celebration of Life will begin at 7:00 p.m. following the visitation. An Interment will occur Wednesday, May 23, 2018 beginning at 10:00 a.m. held at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Rd, Shreveport, LA.
Over the course of Elwood Peters life, he was mentored in the ministry by his Uncle, the late Rev. G.D. Peters, who helped shape Elwood to be the man of God that he was. Elwood served his Precious Lord in the ministry for 57 years, as an Assistant in several churches and Pastor at Huntingdon, Tennessee and Malvern, Arkansas. While in Arkansas, Elwood was also a Sunday School Sectional Leader for Section 4.
Elwood not only had a love for the ministry of Jesus Christ, whom he so faithfully and dutifully served, but he loved the game of golf. He organized, for several years along with Rick Lumpkins, the Minister’s Golf Games, which raised money for the “Save our Children’s Fund”. He enjoyed every moment in planning these and looked forward to them.
He worked for 25 years with Haverty’s Furniture as an Assistant Sales Manager and later a Manager at one of the stores in Shreveport. Then he and his wife, Carolyn Lewis Peters, moved to Hot Springs Village, where he pastored a Church in Malvern, Arkansas for 14 years. When he retired from pastoring in Malvern, they attended AFT (Apostolic Faith Tabernacle) in Pearcy, Arkansas, where Rev. Dennis Anderson is the Pastor.
In December of 2017, Elwood and Carolyn returned to Shreveport, Louisiana to be near their daughter, Kecia Peters Carroll and son-in-law, Charles W. Carroll, Jr. and family.
Left to cherish the loving memory of Elwood are his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Lewis Peters; their daughter, Kecia Peters Carroll and her husband, Charles W. Carroll, Jr.; his brother, Gary R. Peters and wife, Kaye Peters; nephew, Robert S. Peters and daughters, Kathleen and Sophia; niece, Amy Peters Manto and husband Aurelio, with daughter and son, Georgia and Nico; his sister, Inez Hermann; nephew Randy Hermann and his daughters, Tiffany and Aubrey; niece, Shelly Qualls Baker and son, Austin Baker and daughter, Makenzie; sister-in-law, Jena Jones and husband, Frank Jones; niece, Juliana Clifton and husband, Shayne Clifton and daughters, Celeste and Mariana and son, Andrew; nephew, Edward Jones and wife, Karon Jones and daughters, Caitlyn and Marissa.
Also left to cherish his memory are all of the Minister friends he has made throughout the years of his ministry, especially the last 20 years in Arkansas.
