Larry Wayne Johnson entered into the glory of his heavenly home and into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Saturday March 15, 2025. Fully healed, he is experiencing such sweet reunions and endless love.
Larry was born into a loving family on January 5, 1948 to Odis and Vada Johnson in Alexandria, LA. He was next to the youngest of nine children. He was raised in Antone, LA before the family moved to Shreveport when he was 6.
Larry worked his way through college earning his Bachelor Degree at LSU-New Orleans. After working various jobs at Texas Eastern and Beaird Poulan, he eventually landed at LSU Medical Center where he retired as a Systems Analyst.
He met his wife, Debbie, in a singles class at Western Hills Baptist Church. They married in Lake City, CO and were married for 35 and a half years. Together, they built a life focused on God and filled it with many hobbies and travels. From camping in backpack tents and cabins, vacation rentals from Maine to Washington state, Canada to Mexico and Central America, and all in between. Also many cruises from Alaska to most islands in the Caribbean.
Larry loved fishing and was considered the best fish frier ever. Many family get-togethers involved a fish fry. He enjoyed working with Debbie in their yard where they built arbors, gardens, and flower beds throughout. But his real joy was dancing. It didn't matter if it was the twist, a slow dance, or a shimmy, he loved it all, and Elvis was the King.
Larry was very involved in many ministries at his church, Trinity Heights Baptist. He worked many years on the kitchen committee and any activity involving the senior adults. He loved his Sunday School class, the Baines Salt and Light class, and was a substitute teacher for the class. He loved singing in the choir where he was a faithful member for as long as possible.
Larry was a faithful, caring, and loving husband. He took such good care of Debbie during her cancer treatment as well as helping her take care of her parents as they aged.
Larry is survived by his wife and best friend, Debbie; sisters, Betty Bayne who loved him as a son and Evelyn Myers (Troy); brothers, Buddy Johnson (Margaret) and Allen (PeeWee) Johnson; father in law Barrett Hudson; sister in laws, Sandy (Dwayne) Johnson and Kim (Gary) Pace; brother in law, Jason (Lee) Hudson and his faithful companion, Piper. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents; sisters Helen Johnson, Dorothy Vanaselberg (Bobby), and Pearl Lemley (RL & Jim); brother Buck Johnson (Dot); sister in law, Linda Johnson; very special brother in law, Charlie Bayne; and mother in law Lois Hudson.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from 12-1pm at Trinity Heights Baptist Church with services immediately following conducted by Dr. Scott Teutsch and assisted by Claude Baines. Burial will be at the Salem Cemetery in Red Land, LA.
