Larry Hugh Teague, 81, entered his heavenly home on July 29, 2016. Larry was born in Shreveport, LA, December 17, 1934, to Albert Hugh and Mary Elizabeth Smith Teague, and resided in Bossier City. He was a 1953 graduate of Bossier High School and earned a degree in physical education at Centenary College in 1957. In the spring of 1958, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army and served two years at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, before moving back to Shreveport in 1960.
Larry was known for his quick wit and keen sense of humor. He was always ready with a joke, a pun, or an anecdote. He thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and competition of a variety of sports and pastimes. He excelled in most every endeavor: basketball, ping-pong, slow-pitch softball, bowling, tennis, golf, cooking, darts, hunting, and fishing. He was always coaching; whether it was how to drive a car, how to drive a golf ball, or how to stir a pot of gumbo. He coached his sons’ little league teams, and he directed “field days” at their elementary school. He loved music and lyrics and harmony. He was a member of the local barbershop society in which he competed and entertained in a quartet of friends-for-life known as the “Faux Pas Feaux.” He retired from Bank ‘n’ Business Systems. The consummate salesman, he endeared many customers when he “called on them” with a Dutch oven filled with hot, homemade biscuits, accompanied with mayhaw jelly! In fact, to a select group, his company was identified as “Bank ‘n’ Biscuits.”
He loved studying and teaching the Bible and discussing theology. He served as a Sunday School teacher for a number of years at Broadmoor Baptist Church. All-in-all, the core of Larry’s being was identified with Jesus Christ as God and Savior, in whom he had placed his faith from childhood. Larry knew, for certain (by grace through faith), Jesus to be his Perfection and his Hope.
Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry Franklin and Mary Katie Kirkpatrick Smith and Arthur Miller and Janie Smith Teague; his parents; and his sister, Sharon Teague Jarrell. He is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, Margaret Poss Teague; his children, Allyson Teague; Kevin Teague (wife Ashley); Jeffrey Teague (wife Wendy); Lauren Escudé (husband Philip); and Jennifer Howell (husband Brian); and his nine grandchildren who affectionately called him “Pah.” Larry is also survived by his brother Gary Teague (wife Rebecca); his brother-in-law Larry Jarrell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with his family and friends will be on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM in the Broadmoor Baptist Church Sanctuary. The celebration of his life will begin at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary with Dr. Larry Williams; Dr. Larry Slay; long-time friend, Ron Viskozki; and his son, Jeffrey Teague, officiating. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park.
Serving Larry as pallbearers are Jack Gulledge, Dr. Mack Lattier, Bobby Schulman, Leon Shaw, Gary Teague, and Ron Viskozki. Honorary pallbearers include Dean Busboom, Dr. Howard Collins, Wilbur Hirsch, Pat McGonagill, Joel Sermons, and Peter Winkler.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Broadmoor Baptist Church (Archives or ESL Class), the American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the Christian Charity of your choice.
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow…
