Mrs. Laverne Baucum Brister

Shreveport, LA- Funeral services celebrating the life of Laverne Baucum Brister, 85, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Cecil Marr and Joe Huffman. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.

Laverne was born on March 21, 1927 in Claiborne Parish, LA and passed away on October 25, 2012 in Shreveport, LA. She was a faithful member of Pinecroft Baptist Church, and a welcomed guest at Southern Hills Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting and was an accomplished artist. Laverne loved the Shreveport Fire Department.

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, T.J. Baucum and Lela Hilburn Baucum; husband, Roy L. Brister and sister, Norma Baucum Harper.

She will be greatly missed by her family: sister, Tommie Baucum Calvert; nephews, Joe G. Huffman(Jan), Rusty Hart; niece, Candi Hart; great nieces and nephews, Julie Huffman Pitcher(George), Amanda Hart Tynes(Chris), Joy Huffman Shadrix(Chris) and Chad Hart(Wendy). She is also survived by 9 great-great nieces and nephews that gave her much joy.

Honoring Mrs. Brister as pallbearers will be: Chad Hart, Chris Tynes, Chris Shadrix, Jake Shadrix, Tracy Smith, Wayne Smith and Joe Murray. Vernon Fair will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to Carson’s Medical Fund, Southern Hills Church of Christ, 9080 Southwood Dr., Shreveport, LA 71118 or to a charity of your choice.
