Services for Lennie Haddox Upshaw, 99, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home in Shreveport. Officiating will be Mrs. Upshaw’s nephew, Dr. Connie Ward, of Ruston, Louisiana. The family will be receiving visitors at 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton, Louisiana.
Lennie was born on February 17, 1915, in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana, and passed away on July 9, 2014.
Lennie was a very talented seamstress and tailor and retired from Pope’s at the age of 75. She was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and a former long time member of Highland Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and always prepared fabulous Sunday lunches for her family that were fit for kings. Lennie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents William Sebron Haddox and Louana Haddox; her husband of 57 years, Ray Benoyd Upshaw; 4 sisters, Viola Fisher, Josie Casdorph, Edeline Bass, and Lydia Roddy; and 2 brothers, Clayton Haddox and Elijah Haddox.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Sanders & husband Ed, of Keithville, LA., Barbara Chambless & husband Jack of Shreveport, LA; one granddaughter, Tiffany Chambless Ristroph & husband Kevin, of The Woodlands, TX; two great-grandaughters, Caroline Elizabeth Ristroph and Mary Claire Ristroph; one brother, Frank Haddox and wife Elizabeth, of Slaughter, LA, and many nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Sanders, Jack Chambless, Jr., Kevin Ristroph, Billy Fisher, Raymond Fisher and Kinny Haddox.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Seborn Woods for his compassion, care, and friendship for over 40 years. A special thanks also to the staff, nurses, and aides at Garden Park Nursing Center for their dedication and care.
