Lila Ruth Herman, 97, formerly of Mayersville, MS, went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2025 after suffering a short illness. Lila Ruth was born in Water Valley, MS on July 14, 1927 to James Frank Bratton and Vera Clyde Johnson Bratton.
She married Herbert Marshall Herman, Sr. in December of 1947, and they firmly planted roots in Mayersville, MS, where they lived for over 50 years and raised their four children. Early in their marriage, they attended Grace Presbyterian Church and later transitioned to Rolling Fork Presbyterian Church where Lila Ruth taught Sunday School. Their final church home was Rolling Fork First Baptist Church where they were faithful members for many years. Lila Ruth served as secretary to the Superintendent of Education until her retirement, and later worked part-time as a postal clerk at the Mayersville Post Office.
Following Herbert’s retirement, they moved to Glen Allan, MS, where they lived on the peaceful banks of Lake Washington. After Herbert’s passing in 2006, Lila Ruth remained in Glen Allan until 2018, when she moved to Shreveport, LA to live with her youngest son, Gary. During her retirement, Lila Ruth enjoyed spending time with her sister and neighbor, Nell Hollingsworth, and other extensive family in the area. She developed a love of painting during this period and many of her works hung proudly around her lake home studio. She also relished flower gardening, bird-watching and tending to numerous cats who found refuge in her loving care.
