Louie Mitchell “Mickey” Joiner, Jr. , a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 22, 2026, at the age of 80 surrounded by his family at home. He was born on June 10, 1945, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late Louie Mitchell Joiner, Sr. and Alice Lanell Holder.
Mickey honorably served in the United States Army, earning many accommodations. During his school years, he was elected Woodlawn Knight and was an accomplished football and track athlete. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mickey was known for his generous spirit and genuine kindness. He never hesitated to help others. His sense of humor had a way of turning strangers into friends. He took great pride in being a “Groveite” a distinction he considered a true statement of esteem, especially shared with Thomas Youngblood. Mickey found his greatest joy in supporting his children and grandchildren. As a papa, Mickey was truly one of a kind, never shy about offering advise, often beginning with his familiar phrase, “Now let me tell you what you need to do.” Those words, spoken with love and wisdom, will forever be remembered by the family he cherished.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Toms Joiner; his children, Dr. Michelle Self and husband, Jeff Marcotte, Mitch Joiner and wife, Juli Joiner, and Michael Joiner; and his grandchildren, Hannah Self, Dr. Katie Self Caldwell and husband, Dr. Chris Caldwell, Hunter Self and wife, Railey Self, Mitchell Joiner, IV and wife, Tiffany Joiner, Makayla Joiner, Lindsay Joiner, and Michael Joiner, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucy Nell Hearron; and nephew, Cheston Hearron.
Visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 9333 Linwood Ave., Shreveport, LA 71106, on January 29, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am. The committal service will take place at Old Saline Baptist Church Cemetery, 5280 Ridge Rd., Saline, LA 71016, at 3:00 pm.
