Shreveport, LA
Lucretia Pippen was a free spirited independent woman born in Oklahoma June 23, 1920. She was a good mother and a devoted wife. She had many talents that she graciously shared with her friends.
Lu showed love and kindness in every job. Her joy in helping others was evident in every situation. She planned weddings at the Rose Garden and helped decorate. She was an excellent flower arranger in Gertrude Davis’s flower arranging business. In another job she was a talented seamstress making the round table cloths that were used in the movie “The Steel Magnolia” that was filmed in Natchitoches. She volunteered to fold the church news letter and was known as the “cookie lady” as she brought cookies every week to her beloved Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
Lu was a member of the Laureate Iota Chapter of the international sorority Beta Sigma Phi. She was loyal in attendance and enjoyed the camaraderie of the group for many years. She was an avid bridge player with friends at East Ridge Country Club. She continued playing and staying sharp into her nineties. Her love of life and faith in God was shown throughout her life in all that she did for others.
Lu was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred Monroe Pippen, Sr.; parents, John Sloan and Gladys (Ponton) Sloan Robinson; brother, John Sloan; and sister, Judy Turner. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Fred Pippen, Jr. and his wife, Judy and Richard Pippen and his wife, Rakkhana; four grandchildren, Teresa Rotenberry and her husband, Todd, Richard Pippen, Jr. and his wife, Mandy, Rachael Pippen, and Russell Pippen; and two great-granddaughters, Hanna and Hailey Rotenberry.
