It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Margaret Maxine Shumaker Morell, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend who went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 7, 2026, at the awesome age of 99.
Maxine as she was affectionally called built a life full of faith, family and friends. She was born on February 17, 1927, in Harmon, Louisiana to Fabious Maximus and Mae Camille Finch. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Laura VonHollen and husband, Leroy; Jean Lincoln and husband, Charles and sister-in-law, Patsy Finch.
Her life will forever be cherished by her children; Margaret Hughes, Wayne Shumaker and Brenda Moncla; grandchildren, Brian (Courtney), Shalane, Nathan, Kristi (Brian), Thomas (Sara); great grandchildren, Aaron, Haleigh and Alex; great great grandson Raylen; her precious sister, Audrey Nossaman and brother William Henry (Dub) Finch and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
Maxine was also known as Mamaw to her family and loved ones. She found great joy in simple, meaningful routines such as working in her flower beds and feeding the birds while drinking her morning coffee. She and her sister, Audrey shared many special hours everyday talking on the phone about "the good old days."
The family will receive friends and family at 10:00am on Monday, July 13, 2026. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11am at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road in Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Ronnie Bamburg with special music by Randy Graves.
Honoring her as pallbearers will be Wayne Shumaker, Thomas Raney, Aaron Hughes, Ronnie Morgan, Tom Toms and Brian Leslie; and honorary pallbearer Darryl Lincoln.
