Marilyn Janiene Carr Creel, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026 at the age of 86. Born June 23, 1940, to the late James Davis Carr and Rachel Burns Carr, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Janiene, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, will be remembered with deep affection for the steady kindness and compassion she offered so naturally to those around her.
After graduating from C.E. Byrd High School in 1958, Janiene worked at BellSouth as a switchboard operator for a short time. She later served in Caddo Parish schools as a paraprofessional at Hollywood Elementary and at Stoner Hill Elementary School. In recognition of her faithful service and the care she brought to her work, she was awarded Support Person of the Year for Caddo Parish.
She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she found her greatest joy in time spent together. She loved traveling to the beach and to Mexico with her husband, Billy, and she also enjoyed playing the piano. Her gentle devotion was evident in the way she taught and cared for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and in the compassionate care she provided to her mother, until her passing.
Janiene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Billy Creel; her parents, James and Rachel Carr; her father-in-law, Belton V. Creel; and her mother-in-law, Ora Mae Creel.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Kevin Creel and wife, Shannon, Keith Creel and wife, Robin and Kris Creel and wife, Amy; grandchildren, Kendall, Michael, Wesley, Stacy, Amanda, Kristyn, and Jake; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Caroline; sister, Karen Hogan and husband, Randy; and sisters-in-law, Ellen Sullivan and Betty Creel Clark; nieces, Stephanie Frew and husband, Allen, and Teresa Litzinger and husband, Gary; nephews, Dale Creel, Randall Hancock, Eric Sullivan and wife, Cherie, Brian Young and wife, Rhonda, and Jeremy Young; special friends, Pat and Frankie Turner, and Mary and Alton Johnson; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
