On Sunday, March 19, 2023, Marilyn Joyce Gibbons, loving wife, and mother of 5 children, passed away at the age of 66. Joyce was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and underwent several treatments and surgeries, determined to stay with her family and loved ones.
Joyce was born on April 23, 1956, in Shreveport, LA to Arthur and Geneva McCrory. On September 12, 1977, she married James Douglas Gibbons (Jimmy). They raised two sons, Chris, and Doug, and three daughters, Theresa, Kim, and Jimmie Dee.
Joyce’s greatest joys were her family, Chihuahuas, and friends. She had a passion for taking care of others. Whether always welcoming anyone into her home, or in her neighborhood bringing people together with her infectious smile. She retired as the Director of Old McDonald Daycare after 30 years. Joyce enjoyed traveling to attend her many grandchildren’s activities and putting her toes in the sand at the beach.
Joyce is preceded in death by her father Arthur, her mother Geneva, and her sister Shirley. She is survived by her husband James (Jimmy) and their five children; Chris Gibbons and his wife Samantha, Doug Gibbons and his wife Jenni, Theresa Osburne, Kim Gonzalez and her husband Steve, and Jimmie Dee Stewart, her grandchildren, her sister Lynette Lambert, her sister-in-law Onalee Burns and many friends.
Joyce’s life will be celebrated on March 23, 2023, with visitation from 12:00-1:00 pm at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home 8801 Mansfield Road Shreveport, LA 71108 with a funeral service to follow.
