Marjorie’s premature birth is believed to have played a part in her being born with a developmentally delayed disability. At the age of 8 years old Marjorie was enrolled into Ruston State School where she was educated and resided until the age of 18 years old.
After completing school, Marjorie relocated to Florida for a brief period of time, while in Florida she resided in several group homes which would assist with guiding her into adulthood. As she progressed she was later placed in Delhi Guest Home which provided more supervision and training, after a period of time had passed, her parents felt that she needed to be close to their home back in Gibsland, Louisiana.
On August 16, 1990, Marjorie was admitted to The Arc Caddo Bossier (Formally known as CBARC) Community Homes, during this span Marjorie resided in several homes; Wayne Street, Norman, Arlington and University Community Homes. Once Marjorie had reached her full potential as a resident of CBARC Community Homes, she became an eligible recipient for The Arc Caddo Bossier’s Supported Independent Living Program. Marjorie was admitted into the Arc’s Independent Living Program on September 10, 2012. It was during this time that Marjorie would learn to live in the Community as independently as possible while receiving assistance from her Direct Support Staff.
Throughout this time span, Marjorie worked at Walmart as a Seasonal Greeter, James Conly Workshop as a package handler, and Good Will Industries where she eventually retired. Marjorie was very outgoing and outspoken; she was a jokester who was always up for a good time. She enjoyed sitting out with her neighbors and friends and pranking everyone who passed by.
