A visitation for Melba will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home & Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park. Bro. Mike Hawkins will officiate the service. Honoring her as pallbearers are David Dobson, Jerry Ivey, Michael Land, Terry Richardson, Jerry Warren and Larry Weaver.
Melba a resident of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on November 22, 2023 after a short illness. She was born in Natchitoches, Louisiana to the late Nelvyn and Louis Conlay. She graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA where she earned a Master's Degree in Education. She taught for 37 years for Caddo Parish School System before retiring. She was appointed by Governor Edwin Edwards to serve two consecutive terms on the Louisiana State Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities on October 1987. Melba was a longtime member of Woodridge Baptist Church in Shreveport.
Melba was a Christian, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her family was her life. She will be missed but we take comfort in knowing we will see her one day in Heaven. She believed 2 Corinthians 5:8, "We are confident, yes well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord."
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years, Melvin Weaver; her daughter Susan Weaver; her sister Shirley Dobson (Ben); her grandson Ian Weaver.
She was preceded in death by her son Scott Weaver; her father Louis Conlay and her mother Nelvyn Weaver Conlay; her sister Evelyn Land.
