Meredith Lawrence (Larry) Rambin, 83, succumbed to injuries from an accident suffered September 2, 2024 at his home. Larry was a lifelong resident of Shreveport. He is the son of Odell P. and Andrew S. Rambin. He graduated Byrd High School in 1959, then attended Northeast Louisiana State College class of 1964.
Throughout his life he has touched many people whether as a high school teacher and coach; university educator, or as a member of the United States Army Reserve. He has held the title of Husband, Father, Grandpa, Teacher, Coach, Catholic and Friend.
He is the devoted husband of Mary Agnes Rambin for over 58 years and the proud father of Mitchell Rambin and Elizabeth Rambin Rudolph.
He taught and coached football at Byrd High School and Captain Shreve High School for 15 years. As a coach he not only made his charges better athletes, but made them better young men. After teaching and coaching at the high school level, he moved on to Louisiana State University at Shreveport where he was a faculty member for 20 years, teaching and ultimately serving as the school's first athletic director.
While doing all of that he also served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He obtained the rank of Colonel and served as the commander of the 4013th US Army Garrison during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm before retiring in 2000 after serving for 30 years.
In retirement, Larry enjoyed golf, shooting skeet, traveling, and visiting his children and grandchildren.
Larry was proud to be a Catholic and continued to grow in his faith. He has been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1970, serving as the Grand Knight of Council 9260 from 2006 to 2008. He is a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton Parish. He was privileged to participated in a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2022 and served his parish community as a reader, usher and Sacristan for daily mass.
He was selected to the All-Centennial Football Team - Northeast Louisiana University. He was awarded the title of LSUS athletic Director Emeritus and awarded the US Army Legion of Merit.
He is survived by his wife Mary Agnes, son Mitch and his wife Patricia, daughter Elizabeth, grandkids Jessica, Megan, Matthew, William, Emily, Timothy, and Paige, and great grandkids Blake and Margaret He is predeceased by his sister Joyce Rambin Trogel.
Visitation will be Friday, September 6, 2024 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the Rosary at 6:30 pm. The funeral mass will be Saturday September 7, 2024 at 10:00 am at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church followed by interment at Centuries Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Reece Cox, Marshall Jones, Robert McGowen, Matthew Rambin, William Rambin, Timothy Rudolph, Jerry Thomas, and Greg Weeks. Honorary pallbearer is Joe Maney.
