Michael "Dusty" Callaway

Michael Dustin “Dusty” Callaway, age 46 was peacefully called home to the Lord on June 2, 2026. Born on August 12, 1979 at Fort Benning, Georgia; in his younger years Dusty resided with his parents and sister at nine military stations including two in Germany.

Dusty possessed a keen mind, a sense of humor, got involve in school programs, and was curious. Residing in Maryland, Dusty participated in the Cub Scouts. Transitioning to the Boy Scouts of America, he obtained his Eagle Scout Award on June 13, 1995 while residing near Washington, D.C. before his family transferred to Florida where Dusty spent most of his life.

Dusty graduated from Palm Bay High School in May 1998 as an Honor Graduate, was presented with the Florida Institute of Technology Merit Scholarship and attended that college. He was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society in April 1999, and on May 4, 2002, graduated “with high honor” obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. While at Florida Tech, Dusty served as a summer intern working at the Melbourne office of Northrop Grumman and in May 2005, became a full-time employee of Northrop Grumman that sponsored him in obtaining a Master of Science Degree in Systems Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology in 2008. At his passing, Dusty was still employed at Northrop Grumman and during his 21-year professional career worked on multiple technology projects for American armed services and Allied partner militaries.

Dusty became a Christian at any early age and grew into a life of service to others, attending on-base chapel or off-base church services with his family at multiple military stations. Upon becoming a resident of Melbourne, he joined the Bowe Gardens Baptist Church where he was deeply involved with Sunday School classes, annual Vacation Bible School summer sessions, taught Bible study classes on Tuesday evenings, became a Deacon, attended church summer camps, and was known especially in excelling in the Special Gathering Ministry of attendees with special needs where he taught Biblical stories. Either teaching, cooking in the kitchen for church gatherings, or general maintenance of church facilities – Dusty unselfishly and quietly contributed. It wasn’t about him – it was about others and doing the Good Lord’s work.

Dusty through his energy, involvement in serving, humbleness, and putting others first; made a positive difference for many people and organizations. His co-workers at Northrop Grumman and on Team ALMDS noted Dusty was always ready to help, a wealth of knowledge, dedicated team partner, kind, and had a great sense of humor. He was an avid golfer, a Black Belt in martial arts, self-taught base guitarist, and visited Shreveport many times especially at Christmas.

Dusty is survived by his parents – William Lane Callaway and Cathy Benson Callaway and sister, Amanda Lane Callaway of Shreveport Louisiana. Other family members include uncles and aunts – Bruce Edward Callaway and Mary of Beavercreek, Ohio and James Roger Callaway and Sue of Big Sandy, Texas and an abundance of cousins who reside in Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Dusty had a host of friends, acquaintances, co-workers, and Church Family in Florida. Special recognition is given to very close long-time friends – Mary Cripe, Robert “Rob” Ouellette, Jr., Russell Deatherage, and Kristen Cabrera.

A Celebration of Life Service was conducted on June 20 by his Church Family at the Bowe Gardens Baptist Church in Melbourne, Florida. The Celebration of Life in Shreveport is being held on Saturday, July 25 at 10:00 am in Centuries Memorial Chapel follow by interment in the family plot at the Centuries Park. Visitation will begin 9:30 am until service time.

Michael Dustin “Dusty” Callaway is much loved and we know he is in Heaven with the Living God and we shall see him again in eternity. The Callaway Family want to express their heartfelt appreciation to his life-long friends, his newer friends, the Church Family at Bowe Gardens, his supervisors and co-workers, and those who knew him in Shreveport and Bossier City.
