Nancy Husband Wood was born November 28, 1928, in Raleigh, Mississippi, and passed away on January 24, 2018, at the age of 89. Following a private graveside service, a celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Noel Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Fortuna officiating. A reception will follow in the church parlor.
Nancy grew up in Raleigh, Mississippi. She moved to Jackson, Mississippi, to attend business school, and it was there that she met her future husband, John F. Wood, Jr. They were married on September 2, 1950. The couple lived in Memphis and Knoxville, Tennessee, before moving to Shreveport in 1957, where John served as District Sales Manager for Continental Trailways Bus Line. Nancy enjoyed a 32-year career as secretary and office manager at R.F. Zimmerman & Co., Inc.
She was a member of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church and the Mother’s Class, and enjoyed the North Highlands Book Club and the company of her many friends. She was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was always interested to know that everyone was fine and doing the right thing.
Nancy loved people, never met a stranger, and was truly interested in their lives and their families. She enjoyed walking and visiting with her neighbors as they all became her friends. You could often find her manicuring her yard, and she was glad to lend a hand, helping you any way that she could. One of her true loves was God’s beautiful gift of nature and all of its glory.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Maggie and Walter Husband; her husband of 40 years, John Wood; her sister, Elsa Husband Parent; and brothers, Harold Husband, Haskell Husband, Curtis Husband, and Dee Husband. She is survived by her son, John F. Wood, III and wife Susan; grandsons, David Wood and wife Kathryn; Brad Wood and wife Meghan, as well as great-granddaughters, Caroline, Camille, Lauren and Kate Wood, all whom she adored!
The family is very thankful for the compassion, devotion, and friendship that Mom received from all of her friends and those who helped her, especially dear neighbors Janet Meier and Beverly Tucker. To the Savannah staff, caregivers, and friends: Mom’s life was enriched and joyful because of each of you. For that, we will be forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to Noel Memorial United Methodist Church, 520 Herndon Street, Shreveport, LA 71101, The Noel Food Pantry, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
