Nickey Wayne Daniel passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025. He was born on December 19, 1944, to Myrtle Lawrence Daniel and Glen Harris Daniel in Oakdale, Louisiana.
In 1963, Nickey married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia Herrington. Coming from small rural communities, the couple moved to Shreveport, where they built a life together and raised their two daughters. They were devoted members of Broadmoor Baptist Church, serving both their congregation and the surrounding community with dedication and love.
Nickey devoted twenty-one and a half years of his life to the Shreveport Police Department, retiring as Captain. Following his police service, he spent eighteen and a half years as an investigator with the Shreveport District Attorney’s Office.
Nickey’s passion for music was evident to all who knew him. He was an active member of the Broadmoor Baptist Choir beginning in 1982, joyfully singing tenor whenever he could. He helped organize the Good News Gospel Quartet and was also a member of the Louisiana Singing Men’s Group. In 1988, Nickey was ordained as a deacon, serving the church family with a joyful heart.
After the loss of his wife Cynthia in 2013, Nickey found solace in the church program GriefShare. Inspired by the support he received, he became a GriefShare leader, helping others navigate their own journeys of grief. In 2015, Nickey was blessed with a second chance at love and married Kathy Brooks. Together, they enjoyed a life filled with love, travel, and service to their church and family. Nickey was an avid golfer and a loyal fan of LSU and the Dallas Cowboys.
Nickey was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Cynthia Herrington Daniel, and his parents, Glenn Harris Daniel and Myrtle Lawrence Daniel.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Brooks Daniel; brother Donald Daniel (Doris) from Samson, Alabama; daughters Amanda Daniel Phillips (Carl) and Shannon Daniel Cory (Chris); stepdaughter Jan Brooks Manning (Jeff); and stepson Jimbo Brooks (Brandi).
