Patsy was born on March 18, 1935 to William Hassell and Sybil Miller Worsham of Dubberly, LA and attended school in Tullos and Olla. After graduating from LaSalle High School in Olla, she enrolled in Northwestern State College in Natchitoches and later transferred to Texas A & I in Kingsville, TX. She graduated with a B.S. degree in Nursing in 1958 and worked as an obstetric/gynecological nurse at P & S Hospital in Alice, TX and later at Spahn Hospital in Corpus Christi. In 1957 Patsy married the love of her life, Marvin Carter, and had a son, Ray, and a daughter, Kelli.
In 1962, Patsy and her family moved to South America and lived 28 years as ex-patriates in Mendoza and Buenos Aires, Argentina; Bogota, Colombia; and Lima, Peru. Sadly, while living in Argentina, Patsy and Marvin lost their beloved daughter Kelli in an accident. During her many years overseas Patsy worked as a volunteer school nurse and a travel agent. Prior to retiring and moving to April Sound in 1994, Patsy and Marvin spent several years living in Bakersfield, CA.
Throughout her life Patsy enjoyed fishing, golfing, cooking, volunteering, and spending time with friends and family. She was also an active member and volunteer at April Sound Church. Her bright smile and generous spirit will be missed by all.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Kelli. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, her son Ray (Karen), grandson Dillon, granddaughter Alessandra, her sister Anita Brown, sister-in-law Dr. Sue Schopf (Morris), nephew Kit Kelly (Martina), nieces Ann Tidwell (Gary), Sherry Hauser (Cecil) and Mary Atkins, as well as many other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank Pat’s caregivers, Rosie Davis and Jean Willliams, for the loving care they provided Pat during her final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to April Sound Church or the charity of your choice.
