Phillip Joel Benner 65 passed away on September 24, 2010 at his home surrounded by his wife and children, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 5, 1945 in Mason City, Iowa to Sherril and Lila Benner. Services will be held 3:00 pm, September 25, 2010 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home with visitation from 11 -1 pm. Officiating the service will be Roger Patterson, a great friend and long time fishing partner.
He was a salesman for Fruehauf/Wabash Trailer Services for 43 years, in which he was in the top 5 for sales nationwide. He was an avid fisherman and a huge supporter of youth baseball for 40 years. Phil was a loving husband, a great dad, and an amazing papaw that cherished his family.
Preceding him in death is his brother Laverne and his parents. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Benner; brothers, Don, Stan (Betsy), Jerry (Arlene) Benner, sister Beverly Kephart and sister-in-law Patsy Benner; sons: Kevin and Regina Benner of New Orleans, LA, Mike King of Shreveport, LA., daughters: Karen and Raymond Graves of Maumelle, Ark., Melissa and Doug Malmay of Shreveport, LA., grandkids: Michael and Elizabeth King, Lauren Graves, Katlyn and Garrett Malmay, Brittany, Brandi, Anthony, Andrew and Olivia Benner.
Pallbearers will be Mike Norris, David Williams, Jason Stephens, Gary Sullivan, Robert Davidson and Jerry Benner Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Boswell, Bill Hooker, LJ Earnest, Bob Young, Jerry Dumont and Alfonzo Counts.
A special thank you to WK Cancer Center, Dr. Veluvolu, Dr. Durcie, all the nurses and staff in the WK chemo department, and Agape Hospice Group.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Treatment Center.
