Music was one of Phillip’s joys, and it accompanied him faithfully through the years. Beginning on tenor saxophone at Ridgewood Middle School, he continued through Southwood High School and into the Louisiana Tech bands, where his dedication and talent were recognized through many awards in band and solo competition. His love of music also found a home in worship, as he enjoyed singing in the church choir at Istrouma Baptist in Baton Rouge and had planned to join the Sr. adult choir at Cypress Baptist Church in Benton before his health declined. Above all, Phillip cherished God, his family, and his church.
Phillip also found deep enjoyment in the simple, steady gifts of companionship and shared time. He loved fly fishing on the Colorado River with friends, and he enjoyed playing card games and bingo at The Blake Retirement Center, where he lived—moments that brought connection, laughter, and comfort to everyday life.
Phillip is survived by his brother, Alan Leroy Lear (Debbie); his niece, Sarah Haynes (Chris Owens); his nephew, Richard Lear (Tracy); his great nieces, Cassie Haynes and Daylie Lear; his great nephews, Kevin Haynes and Blake Haynes; and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by parents.
Visitation will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108, on Monday, November 2, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life following at 11:00 am. A Committal Service will take place at Centuries Memorial Park, where he will be laid to rest.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Lear, Kevin Haynes, Blake Haynes, David Spilker, Eddie Hill, Neil Murphy, and Phillip Wade.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Phillip’s wonderful sitters who became extended family—Lakessea, Lashaundra, and Porsha—and to the Willis Knighton Hospice of Louisiana staff, especially Katherine, Kay, and Kathy, for their compassionate care and support.
