Robert H Henderson ,DVM

Funeral services for Dr. Robert Harrell Henderson age 64, of Keithville, LA will be held on December 21, 2016 at 2 PM at Christ United Methodist Church, Shreveport, LA. Officiating the service will be Rev. Kaylan Walker.

Robert was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on February 6, 1952 to Ferris Harrell Henderson and Lorene Attaway Henderson and passed away on December 18, 2016 in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Robert spent the majority of his childhood in Rayville, LA where he graduated as salutatorian and married his high school sweetheart, Tommye Spruell Henderson, his wife of 46 years. He went on to Louisiana Tech University where he graduated Cum Laude in Animal Science in 1973 and then to LSU School of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated from the first class in 1977 with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Robert was very proud that his son Neil went on to be the first child of an LSU alumnus to graduate from the vet school in 1995. Robert practiced large and small animal medicine for 31 years practicing in Lake Charles, Shreveport/Bossier, and Stonewall. He established Pine Ridge Veterinary Center in Stonewall, LA in 1984 where Neil continues to practice.

Robert had a joy for life. He loved his family and friends. His passion for telling a great story made you feel like you were a part of his adventure. His love for the outdoors was brought to fruition in the time he was able to hunt and fish and this was passed on to his son and grandchildren in the time they were able to spend together.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Martha H. Arrington. He is survived by his wife of 46 years: Tommye Henderson; son Robert Neil Henderson, DVM and wife Stacey Alexander Henderson, MD of Stonewall and their children Emily, Will, and Hayes Henderson. He is also survived by his sisters: Barbara H. Pray and husband Don of Tulsa, OK; Nancy H. Morgan and husband T.L. of Plano, TX; sister-in-law Diann Brand and husband Ken of San Antonio, TX ; a special cousin Craig Henderson and wife Janice of Gonzales, LA and a host of special nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers are lifelong friends: Mickey Mixon, Lester Stokes, Jeff Craven, Charlie Wiggins, Gordon “Scooter” Medlin, and

John Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Dennis Fisher, Tom Pope, Robert Andrews, Robby Cole, William “Bill” Parker

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on December 20, 2016 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. The family would like to especially thank Dr. James Jackson, Dr. Basel Kasabali, Dr. Ursua, Dr. Waddell and the nursing staff at Willis Knighton North for taking such good care of Robert during his lengthy illness. Also, a special thanks to wonderful friends Debby Hill and Gean Fisher and all other special friends, too numerous to mention.
