Rev. Robert "Bob" Salts Jr. was born May 4, 1932 in Los Angeles, California to the late Robert Salts Sr. and Dorothy Marks Graden Salts. He was a Graduate of North Hollywood High in California in 1950.
He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corp. for five years, two in Korea. After his discharge from the military, he craved higher learning attending many universities to learn Engineering, General Studies, Welding and Small Engine Repair and Bible Courses. He attended John Brown University, Lincoln Extension Institute, Shreveport/Bossier Vocational Technical School, and Northwestern State University. He also served his community as a Mason with Fair Park Lodge for over 50 years, even becoming President. He taught at Volunteers of America. He worked for over 50 years at AT&T in Shreveport, Louisiana as a line mechanic. Following his retirement, Bob turned to Ministry.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and teacher of the Bible. He adored spending time with his family, ceramics and spreading the word of God. He was passionate about helping others. Bob became interested in creative arts at an early age, and has experience in several phases of industrial arts, until he specialized in the field of ceramic arts, where he exceed as one of the few ceramic mold makers in the South. He devoted many hours to help his wife make her dream of owning a ceramic shop come to life. He would make the molds for her to paint, the perfect team. One of his proudest accomplishments in life was traveling to all the locations in the Bible. One thing people may not know about Bob is that he was an Aviator and earned his private pilot license.
Bob was truly called by God to minister. He faith went well beyond the normal call of duty. His wonderful spirit and his burning heart to see the lost saved and the comfortless comforted was evident. His love was amazingly unconditional and unwavering. He was a dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Church for over 50 years. Bob was committed to serve other in all aspects. He became Director of Missions for his church overseeing, nursing home ministry, prison ministry, rescue missions and numerous other acts of kindness.
Bob even stepped into become Pastor of his church, during a time of need. He taught, preached or held revivals for churches in Marshall, Ringold, Benton, Mansfield, Stonewall, Ruston, Keithville, Plain Dealing, Gray and numerous in Shreveport. He conducted countless Weddings, Funerals and events over the years. Bob also served as Chaplain to many nursing homes including, South Park, Piermont Manor, Virginia Hall, Shreveport Manor, Live Oaks, Westwood Manor, Midway Manor, Roseview, Glen Oak for the aged and Magnolia Home for Girls. He earned his license in Gospel Ministry as well in 1974. He always had an open heart and open arms to everyone. He did not judge other for their past and saw the good in everyone.
Bob went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family at the age of 92. He is now reunited in Heaven with his wife of 70 years, Ann. Unfortunately he did not live long enough to vote in the 2024 election, he was very excited about it but we know he will be casting his vote from Heaven.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Bobby Salts, Donnie Salts and wife, Linda, and Patty Siskron and her husband, David; grandchildren, Haley, Jacob, Amanda, Jess, Jackie, Jennifer, Jade, Christopher, Lyndsey and Zachary; 32 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sister, Donna Horne and her husband, Chuck; and numerous extended family members.
A Celebration of Life Graveside for Bob will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108. Officiating the service will be Jason Strain.
