Ronald Wayne Butler, 80, passed to eternal life on Saturday, July 2, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Ron was born to Charles and Selma Hellerick Butler in 1931, in Lincoln, Nebraska. His family relocated to Durango, Colorado and then to Gallup, New Mexico, where he grew up.
Ron served four years in the Air Force. He was a graduate of New Mexico A&M in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He worked as a mechanical engineer and retired from Western Electric/AT&T in 1988, then operated a small vending business for the next 14 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Ida Nell Cassidy Butler and one brother, Robert Butler and wife Dona of Fountain Hills, AZ; one daughter, Brenda Kay Stensgard and husband Craig of Denton, TX; three sons, David Alan Butler and Michael Scott Butler of Frierson, LA and Stephen Brian Butler and wife Andrea Butler of Stonewall, LA; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Heather and Kelly Stensgard of Denton, TX; two step-grandsons, Edward Breaux, Jr. and wife, Laurie and Christopher Breaux; and one step great-grandson, Tommy Breaux.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening between the hours of 5-7p.m. at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors and staff of Willis Knighton, Promise, St. Joseph Hospice, and The Guest House for their loving care of Mr. Butler during his illness and requests that donations be made in Mr. Butler’s memory to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
