A proud and dedicated First Sergeant in the Louisiana National Guard, Ronnie was a man of many passions and accomplishments. He served with honor and commitment, and during his military career, he continued to lead as a supervisor and certified welder, retiring from Hica/Kast Metals/Mid Continent Steel. Ronnie was a respected member of the Brazzel Memorial Reunion Board of Directors and a faithful member of the Summer Grove Baptist Church.
His adventurous spirit was evident in his love for hunting, where he earned the 27th North American Big Game Award and was recognized by the Boone and Crockett Club for his 194-point typical mule deer. Beyond hunting, Ronnie was an avid gardener, known for planting over 100 tomato plants that generously fed his entire neighborhood. He also nurtured a unique passion for raising emus and ostriches and shared his love of his horses Ima, Princess, and Duchess with those around him.
Ronnie’s life was enriched by his many interests, including auctions of vintage cars and horses, cutting trees, burning stumps, and traveling far and wide. He cherished his trip to China and countless adventures in Colorado. His loving home was shared with his loyal Doberman, ZeKe, and his affectionate cats, Bitty and Snuggles.
Diagnosed with diabetes at age 50, Ronnie never let health challenges diminish his zest for life or his infamous sweet tooth especially for banana pudding, cheesecake, and lemon pie. He was a man who never met a stranger and had a special place in his heart for his children, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love extended to college and professional sports, which brought him much joy.
Ronnie is survived by his devoted wife, Terry Ann Parker Ennis; his children Michael D. Ennis (Melody), Rhonda E. Ennis (Barbara Dean), Keith Brehmer (Dianne), Kevin Brehmer (Amy), and daughter-in-law Liz Ennis Skees (Kevin). He also leaves behind his sisters Glenda Gail Ennis Britton and Jenny Wilcox; grandchildren Loren Ennis (Jessica), Haley Ennis Hawkins (John), Max Ennis, Alex Stair (Evan), Sarah Ennis, Kienen Lee Ennis, Brittany Elizabeth Landis, Kristi Screws (Brandon), Erin Spears (Donny), Kasey Brehmer, Dustin Brehmer (Cathy), Corey Brehmer (Roxey), Nathan Brehmer (Jamie), Elizabeth Anne Fryer; nieces Michelle May, Julie Marie Hall, Jerri Lynn Giddens; nephew Jeffrey Hoover; cousin Johnette W. Talmadge; and special friend Gwen H. Ennis. He is also survived by 21 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Dr. Ronald Ennis; parents Sterling Lee Ennis and Flossie B. Ennis; sister Elizabeth Janette Hoover and brother-in-law Walter Britton; grandson Kyler Kenneth Jacobs; and cousin Janelle Word Jones.
Ronnie’s legacy lives on in his 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins — all touched by his warmth, kindness, and generosity.
